Little Jar (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Release date: 13th February 2023

When I first connected with Dominic Lopez (Writer/Director) and Kelsey Gunn (Writer/Actor) over our initial call in 2021, it was clear from the outset that our sense of off kilter humor was 100% aligned and we talked for hours about influences and brainstormed ideas for the music. They then sent me the film and I fell in love with it instantly. I auditioned a scene which was the ‘Waste Disposal’ scene, and they loved it. That music actually ended up more or less exactly the same in the final film.

I decided to take a different approach to writing the music, the goal was clear, this was a woman slowly but surely coming apart at the seams and losing her mind – the film gets more and more surreal. I decided that if I was alone, losing my mind, I’d probably start making instruments and sounds… so I did just that. Many of the sounds on the film are household objects like scissors, pots, lamp shades, all sorts - mixed with more traditional orchestral sounds. I also went to the film location in Lake Arrowhead and record the sounds of the cabin, banging pipes outside and scraping things.

I was lucky enough to be joined by some amazing musicians/friends on several songs:

1.      Liz Beebe (BEEBE) – Liz wrote several of the songs and we collaborated on making them sound like the score while keeping Liz’s unique style and incredible voice

2.      James Ewers – James is an incredible songwriter, musician and friend from London. James and I played in bands together for years and even recorded at Abbey Road Studios together. James sings on ‘Little Jar’ and ‘Good Time Lucky’

3.      Gavin Slater – Gav is a truly incredible guitarist, having played in many successful bands (Inc. Wolfgang/Ghosts) and he played lead guitar and slide guitar on ‘Little Jar’ and some really beautiful acoustic guitar on ‘Spend My Time’

4.      Sam Somebody – Sam is an absolute beast of a musician, and played Hammond organ, tambourine and saxophone on ‘Good Time Lucky’
